Spring break, junior in college. Everybody drove to Florida for the week.
春假，大学三年级。每个人都开车去佛罗里达过一周。
There were four of us girls who were friends and this was our year to join the big league.

Two of the girls had cars and we chose the car that was the least unreliable. We all kicked in gas money and drove from northern Indiana to Miami in 26 hours driving straight through.

Somewhere around 2:00 in the morning the two sleeping in the back seat could not be roused, so the two of us in the front rotated every 30 minutes.

When it was my turn, all I could see were unfocused lights drifting across my field of vision. That’s what driving under the “influence” will do to you. Influence being sleep deprivation. Kids!!

We staggered to the room we’d all share, slept a few hours then hit the beach looking for all the guys who we knew would be staying nearby.

We had a blast that week. Beaches all day running around with a large group from our college at night. It was like nothing I’d ever experienced before. A far cry from my days on the farm is all I can tell you.

A week later, we returned the same way we drove down. Somehow, the same girl and I seemed to be the two “designated” drivers between 2:00 and 7:00 in the morning.

Now, this was the good that came out of it. I had a job at the college print shop taking orders and printing out flyers, etc for different organizations. I had some money saved but not enough for my trip to Florida. A friend lent me the money for the trip and on my next payday, I immediately returned the money she gave me.

About 2 months later, her father (who was a bank president!) intended to buy his daughter a new car for graduation. My friend was a year ahead of me. She asked if I’d like to buy her “old” car. The cost was $100. Pennies now. More than I had then.

Her dad said that, since I’d been good for the last loan, he’d personally loan me the money to buy his daughter’s car.

And… here it is. Absolutely loved that car!
