On August 10, 2016, Clinton had almost the exact same lead over Trump that Biden does on August 10, 2020. What makes anybody think this year will turn out any differently?

What is the difference that makes me hopeful?
In 2016 There were Trumpers who were ashamed to admit they were Trumpers, which skewed the numbers. Now they are loud and they are proud. They have had 4 years of strutting around like they owned the place.
Hillary had a lot of rumors and innuendo against her that even independents believed. There were also forces against her in the form of Wikileaks and Russia and Facebook and social media. They still have it now but people are more aware and the companies themselves are doing something about it.
The head of the FBI broke regulations in working against her. Look what good Trump did in return for him.!
Hillary is a woman! Had a somewhat annoying voice. ( it matters).
She never fought back against outrageous accusations. Don't know what happened to Bill Clinton's war room?
Trump is in charge now. Which is a good thing and bad thing. He is more able to orchestrate things but on the flip side he has to bear the responsibility for the failures.
Biden is up without a scandal like Access Hollywood.
Covid, covid ,covid. Turned many Boomers against Trump.
Bernie Bros don't hate Biden as much as Hillary. Plus some of them do understand that if they sit it out this time its another 4 for DT.
4 years ago there was hope that the office would change him and make him a better man. That was when people thought Republicans had some pride and integrity. Now no such illusion.
Of course there is always an October surprise factor lurking in the background. Trump already did one by releasing classified material and ordering the AG to indict and arrest his opponent. But Trump will keep on trying. So we must be vigilant.
The poll takers say they have fixed their methodology so a repeat of 2016 won't recur. Fingers crossed. .
As suggested by James Goodpasture, I forgot one more point. The crossover Republicans and Independents who now have severe buyer's remorse from voting for Trump in 2016. Which is quite a significant number. One of them being George Conway, Kellyannes husband.
